Artist Statement:
These works are a departure from conventional easel painting. I refer to these as “combines” because I combine painted canvas, wood and masonite in creating a composition, resulting in an explosion effect, of shapes and colors. There are still some elements of my previous paintings using these shapes and colors but the overlapping is no longer an illusion but reality in spontaneous placement.
So what are these artworks that hang on a wall, paintings, or sculptures?
They are 3 dimensional, so they could be considered sculptures. However, they include painted canvas. I’m not overly concerned about how to categorize, only to be appreciated.
